“Enterprise Python Development” Walk Through

Yesterday was the first walk through for my CodeMash presentation on enterprise development with Python. Overall it went rather well. I had a little touble with my slides, but I was able to wing it for the missing and outdated slides.

Before work I exported the Open Office presentation as a Power Point and emailed it to myself. At work an hour before the scheduled time I tried to opened the attachment. Unfortuately the file was corrupt. After some frantic searching I found an older version on my work laptop.

The version I found was very much out of date. The slides were out of order and lacking some details. This forced me to do some of the presentation from memory. I at least proved to myself that I was able to remember the material, even in front of a crowd.

  • Hi. I am a member of Turkish Linux Users Society. As a member of it sometimes i am giving seminars at universities or at some cities that are asking to learn Linux. One of the topic i lecture is Python. I will give a seminar at the following months at the education center of IBM in Istanbul. They said they will be happy if i gave it mainly as an application. Indeed i have only 2 years experience in Python and i havent learned GUI programming. I had developed a project with Python and GTK but i nearly forgot the usage of it. So i am looking for a way of showing those people the beauty of Python. Of course i will explain the syntax rules and grammar of the language. Now a days i am interested in XMLs and i am developing an application about XML parsing that will create a web site like a planet but different in someway. It is my final project at the university also. I havent learned the web site creation with Python. Maybe it can be interesting if i had show something with Django. I have time. I may learn it. What do you suggest? Is there a site or a presentation or idea that you can give me?
    With my best wishes.

  • It was a good idea to run through our presentations ahead of time at the CLEPY meeting. Your Enterprise Python presentation will be a great addition to the python advocacy arsenal.

Any chance you'll be able to share the intended slide set with us here?
  • The most important lesson I ever learned from Dr. David Parnas, probably the world's foremost Software Engineer (in the Canadian sense of the word "Engineer"), was:

"Always assume your computer will break, and bring a copy of your presentation on overhead transparencies."
